Rhodes Farmer was an Australian journalist who, on holiday in Shanghai in 1937 at the start of the Chinese-Japanese war, became a war correspondent overnight. He remained there for 3 years travelling thousands of miles through China, visiting war fronts and joining mass flights from the Japanese. He dined with peasants and with General and Madame Chiang Kai-shek, visited Chungking and later drove along the Burma Road. (thenookyamba)
