A large, attractive volume of Our Beautiful Homeland which takes the reader on a journey through parts of central, eastern and northern England. The pictures give an idea of the places covered. Shakespeare Land is centered around Stratford on Avon in Warwickshire and The Dukeries is Nottinghamshire including Robin Hood country. The text is written by Walter Jerrold and R Murray Gilchrist and the 48 illustrations are prints of watercolours by EW Haslehust (1866-1949). Haslehust, a prolific landscape painter and member of the Royal Institute of Water Colour Painters was also known for his railway poster art and his illustrated book series Beautiful England, which are essentially smaller versions of this volume. His landscapes are always charming and nostalgic with great colour and light. At the time of listing I have three other volumes in the series listed separately.
