Brigadier Sir Mark Henniker (1906-1991) was commander of the 63rd Gurkha Brigade in Malaya between 1952 and 1955, with the present work chronicling this three-year period. He was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1926, serving on the north-west frontier of India in 1929-34 and in Europe and North Africa during the Second World War.
