"The stage-coach which carried Her Majesty's mails through a part of her dominions in South Australia was travelling northwards through the heat and dust Of a December day. Mile after mile had it bumped over the rough roads, swinging from side to side. Five horses drew it along, two in the pole and three abreast in the lead; strong, active animals, well adapted to draw the heavy load."
