First edition, first printing. Publisher’s original blue cloth with gilt titles and decoration to the upper board and spine. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece and 20 black and white plates. A very good copy, the binding firm and bright with a little bumping to extremities and fading to the spine. Tanning to endpapers and a little occasional spotting to few page edges are otherwise in good order, clean throughout and free from any previous owners’ inscriptions or stamps.  Scarce in such good condition.
