Raffles of the Eastern Isles by C. E. Wurtzburg published in 1954. ‘This is the definitive biography of Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore (??) and one of the greatest English colonial administrators of all time’. (inside flap of dustjacket). While this statement is questionable it speaks to the power of the British narrative rather than those of Singaporean historians!
